Where did the word "Ozarks"
originate?
In North America's early exploration, French frontiersmen came up
with
their catch phrase "aux Arcs," meaning "on to the Arkansas
River."
It wound up "Ozarks" as in the reference to "those mountains."

When the French came to this section (probably in
the late 18th century)
they found a tribe of Indians who carried great bows and arrows.
The French called them "aux Arcs" - or Bow Carriers.
