Chords, Guitar Tablature & Lyrics
____________________________________________________________________________________

I think that there are 2 electric guitars in this one. I'm going to show you just the chords - you can take it from there. Be sure to visit my tab page in order to understand how I write tablature on the web.

By the way, I interpreted these chords from listening to the LP - I did not use any other written music as an aid in writing the tab presented on this page. If you think that I have made a mistake, please let me know about it by dropping me a quick note.

Click here if you want only the lyrics.

THE CHORDS:

F C G G G G

(INTRO)

          G
there's a lotta folks down at the island

that follow that astrology

some got a chart of the heavens

                            F C
and some got a fancy degree

    G
but me I got a pick-up

and I drive it like a Fourth of July

and that's where I seen the vision

                                  F C
when it fell right out of the sky, it said

D
follow, follow the southern cross

leave your luck in Mexico

there ain't no way to get lost

                                  F C
cause there ain't no place to go

     G
so I bought me a ticket to Texas

and I hopped on a plane to Peru

I met a little lady from Chile

                                  F C
and she fed me a tropical root

        G
now I'm down in Tierra del Fuego

and nothin' around me is right

I think I got a case of lumbago

                                         F C
but it's better than the northern lights, I gotta

D
follow, follow the southern cross

leave your luck in Mexico

there ain't no way to get lost

                                  F C
cause there ain't no place to go

G F C
G F C
(HORN SOLO)

     G
so I paddled out to Easter Island

about as fast as I could go

I saw and albatross on the horizon

                                  F C
and the stone heads all in a row

            G
I found the secret of navigation

and the mystery of the Milky Way

now I'm livin' in the constellations

                            F C
tell me what more I can say, you gotta

D
follow, follow the southern cross

and leave your luck in Mexico

there ain't no way to get lost

                                  F C
cause there ain't no place to go whoa!

G F C
G F C

G F C
(HORN STUFF)
(repeat & fad)

TIPS:

Uhhh.... take it fast...

Intro:

Each chord symbol in the intro receives 4 beats.

Rest of the song:

Chord symbols do not represent number of beats, except in the intro.

Intro & Rest of the song:

When playing the G chord in the long stretches, play the alternate G chord. When it sounds like its changing, play the alternate C chord very quickly and the go back to the G chord. If you can hear this in the song, then you should be playing the C chord twice for every eight beats when you see the G chord symbol. That is, for every eight beats of the G chord, you should be playing the C chord on the upbeats of the 7th and 8th beats - G everywhere else, including the downbeats of beats 7 and 8.
