Chords, Guitar Tablature & Lyrics
____________________________________________________________________________________
Whew! This one was a toughie! I think that there's one electric & two acoustic guitars in this one. There's also: a piano, an electric piano, a harpsichord, and some very strange bass notes. I'm going to show you the chords, a few of the bass notes and offer a lot of tips. Be sure to visit my tab page in order to understand how I write tablature on the web. Give this beautiful song a shot - don't let the chord names scare ya... it's easier to play than it looks! Since I'm not 100% sure of these chords, this page may change periodically!!
By the way, I interpreted these chords from listening to the CD - I did not use any other written music as an aid in writing the tab presented on this page. If you think that I have made a mistake, please let me know about it by dropping me a quick note.
Click here if you want only the lyrics.

TIPS:
Intro (acoustic guitars)
The intro is:
C/G C/G C/G C/G (Acoustic Guitars Intro)
Each chord receives three strums:
On the down-beat of beat one, play the C/G chord like this and strum:
1 -|| ---------------------------------
2 -|| ---------------------------------
3 -|| --------0-----------------------0
4 -|| --------0-----------------------0
5 -|| -----------------------4--------3
6 -|| -----------------------3--------3
(This is just the C/G chord with the 2nd finger lifted up and playing only the lower strings)
On the up-beat of beat one, play the C/G chord like this and strum:
1 -|| ---------------------------------
2 -|| ---------------------------------
3 -|| --------0-----------------------0
4 -|| ----------------2---------------2
5 -|| -----------------------4--------3
6 -|| -----------------------3--------3
(This is chord above with the 2nd finger put down)
On the up-beat of beat two, play the C/G chord and strum:
1 -|| --------0-----------------------0
2 -|| --------1-----------------------1
3 -|| --------0-----------------------0
4 -|| ----------------2---------------2
5 -|| -----------------------4--------3
6 -|| -----------------------3--------3
(This is the usual C/G chord - play all strings)
Remember to play this sequence four times.
Intro (where band joins in)
When playing this part,
C/G Dsus2/B Am7 (ccbbaaee) C/G Dsus2/B Am7 (ccbbaaee) (Band joins in)
this is what ya do:
The C/G is played just like the above.
The Dsus2/B and Am7 follow the same pattern.
The Dsus2/B is played like:
On the down-beat of beat one, play the Dsus2/B chord like this and strum:
1 -|| --------------------------------
2 -|| ---------------------------------
3 -|| -------------3------------------2
4 -|| -----0--------------------------0
5 -|| -------------2------------------2
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is just the lower strings of the Dsus2/B chord.
On the up-beat of beat one, play the Dsus2/B chord like this and strum:
1 -|| ----------------------------------
2 -|| ----------------------------------
3 -|| -------------3------------------2
4 -|| -------------1------------------2
5 -|| -------------2------------------2
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is chord above with the 1st finger put down)
On the up-beat of beat two, play the Dsus2/B chord and strum:
1 -|| -----0--------------------------0
2 -|| -----------------------4--------3
3 -|| -------------3------------------2
4 -|| -----0--------------------------0
5 -|| -------------2------------------2
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is the usual Dsus2/B chord - play all marked strings)
The Am7 is played like:
On the down-beat of beat one, play the Am7 chord like this and strum:
1 -|| ----------------------------------
2 -|| ----------------------------------
3 -|| -----0--------------------------0
4 -|| -----0--------------------------0
5 -|| -----0--------------------------0
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is just the lower strings of the Am7 chord.
On the up-beat of beat one, play the Am7 chord like this and strum:
1 -|| ----------------------------------
2 -|| ----------------------------------
3 -|| -----0--------------------------0
4 -|| ----------------2---------------2
5 -|| -----0--------------------------0
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is chord above with the 2nd finger put down)
On the up-beat of beat two, play the Am7 chord and strum:
1 -|| -----------------------4--------3
2 -|| ----------1---------------------1
3 -|| -----0--------------------------0
4 -|| ----------------2---------------2
5 -|| -----0--------------------------0
6 -|| ----------------------------------
(This is the usual Am7 chord - play all marked strings)
The Am7 chord does this sequence twice.
Can you see the pattern among the three chords?
They all play a 'd' note to an 'e' note on the first beat (string/fret: 4/0, 4/2).
The (ccbbaaee) and (ccbba) Things:
These are just single notes that can be played (string/fret):
(ccbbaaee) is: 2/1, 2/1, 2/0, 2/0, 3/2, 3/2, 4/2, 4/2.
(ccbba) is: 2/1, 2/1, 2/0, 2/0, 3/2.
They can also be played: 1/8, 1/8, 1/7, 1/7, 1/5, 1/5, 2/5, 2/5 and 1/8, 1/8, 1/7, 1/7, 1/5.
Both of these are played over the Am7.
After the (ccbba) you need to play the Asus2(add 7th) chord fairly quickly.
The Vocals:
Play the usual chords on the down-beat of beat one, the up-beat of beat two, and the down-beat of beat four - play just the straight chords - none of the moving from 'd' to 'e'. You can also play on every down and up beat while accenting the aforementioned beats , but lightly - this sounds great if you are playing alone.
The Ending:
The last three chords are:
C/G Am7 G
For the C/G and Am7, try lifting your 1st finger up on the up-beat of the first beat.
I hope you enjoyed playing this piece.
