Chords, Guitar Tablature & Lyrics
____________________________________________________________________________________

I think that there are two acoustic guitars in this one. I'm going to show you the chords - you can take it from there. Be sure to visit my tab page in order to understand how I write tablature on the web.

By the way, I interpreted these chords from listening to the LP - I did not use any other written music as an aid in writing the tab presented on this page. If you think that I have made a mistake, please let me know about it by dropping me a quick note.

If there is enough interest, I'll tab the harpsichord intro............ just kidding.

Click here if you want only the lyrics.

THE CHORDS:

(HARPSICHORD INTRO)

G4 G4 G
(ADD GUITARS & BASS)

      D Em Em/D
just about a hundred years or so ago

        A/C#4 C D G
ten men rode their way down the mighty colorado

          D Em Em/D
and as I read about their journey

           A/C#4 C D
I couldn't help but feel a very similar yearning

       G D Em Em/D
to mr. powell

      A/C#4 C D Em
and I wish that I could have been there with him

           Em/D A/C# Am/C Em
the way he talked about the river I could tell

        Em/D A/C# Am/C Em
the revelations he must have felt within himself

          Em/D A/C# Am/C G1+1/2
the realization of what man's supposed to do I feel it too

(FLUTE SOLO)
Em Em/D A/C# Am/C

Em Em/D A/C# Am/C

              D4 Am74
as they would ride over the waves

              D4 Am74 G
as they would glide over the waves

          D Em Em/D
the river forged its way through canyons

     A/C#4 C D G
that were so high that the clouds would float within them

        D Em Em/D
cascade fountains moss surrounded

   A/C#4 C D
on through a gorge grand beyond description

              G D Em Em/D
and the river rolls

           A/C#4 C D Em
and like a whirlpool it sets my mind to spinnin'

         Em/D A/C# Am/C Em
can you imagine walls that went so high

                 Em/D A/C# Am/C Em
the sky would be nothing more than a single thin blue line

                 Em/D A/C# Am/C
and rocks would rainbow their way up to the sky

              D4 Am74
as they would ride over the waves

              D4 Am74
as they would glide over the waves

                G D2+1/2
you'd hear them singing, singing

TIPS:

ALL of the chord symbols represent two beats - unless you see a 4 in the chord symbol. If you see a symbol like Am74 or D4 - play that chord for 4 beats. The G1+1/2 stands for one and a half beats - on the upbeat of two, play the next chord. The D2+1/2 stands for two and a half beats - on the downbeat of one, play the next chord. Note that the chord after G1+1/2 is played on the upbeat while the chord after the D2+1/2 is played on the downbeat.
